In line with the expansion of its comprehensive rental fleet, MC Rental has also experienced a significant growth in its pre-owned vehicle sales operation, with 2018 representing a record year for vehicles sold nationally by the Kent based company.
In total, the company sold over 900 vehicles in 2018, ranging from car derived vans right through the various GVW’s up to maximum weight Euro VI tractor units, and covering all the major commercial vehicle marques and body specifications. The trend is continuing this year, with over 160 pre-owned vehicles already sold in the first six weeks of 2019.
According to Mark Barton, Director, MC Rental, “We are quite different from other remarketing companies in that we only ever remarket vehicles from within our own rental fleet. As a result, we know the history of the vehicles, where they have been working and we automatically back up all pre-owned vehicle sales with a three-month driveline warranty as standard, so they are highly sought after. Generally, the vehicles can be any age from 18 months old to 4 years old and sometimes even older, attracting buyers from all over the UK including Scotland.”

The MC Rental pre-owned vehicle sales operation started in March 2014 and in the first year 245 vehicles were sold through this division. The department now has a full-time staff of 6 working from the company’s main head office site in Larkfield, Kent.
As Mark Barton continues, “This sales operation has now become a crucial part of the MC Rental business, as there is a continuous rolling demand to replace significant numbers of older fleet vehicles to accommodate our ongoing investment in new fleet additions.”
Currently, the average age of the MC Rental fleet is between 24 and 27 months, with fleet utilisation levels at over 95% in the first two months of 2019. Sales of the preowned vehicles are split between trade and retail sales on a 40%/60% basis.
“All our pre-owned vehicles are thoroughly serviced, prepped and inspected ready for delivery direct to the customer and in most cases the vehicles tend to go straight on the road with their new owners almost immediately,” commented Mark Barton
